Washington, D.C. - Paul Helmke, President of the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence, issued the following statement:
“Representative Julia Carson was an amazing woman, a fearless advocate who opened doors her entire life. I was privileged to be able to know her and work with her over many years. She cared about the poor, she cared about the disenfranchised, and she worked hard to combat the gun violence and crime that so unfairly impacts the most vulnerable people in our communities.
“During the Holiday season, we all try to be generous, but Julia never needed it to be the Holiday season to help the neediest. It is sad that we lost her at this time of year, but it would have been sad at any time of year.”
